Before the visit:
I Think it won’t be ‘great fun’ to go to the cathedrals, but I think it will be very pretty. My parents told me they were jealous, so I promised them to take pictures, which makes that I have to listen and look very carefully. I think it’s a catholic cathedral, so that there will be sculptures of Mary and Jesus. It will maybe take long to see and listen to all the explanation, but that is a prejudice. Maybe it’s not true. I think we will also see windows with colourful and pretty glass in it. What I know about the history? Not much. I’ve also missed a lesson so I read about it in the booklet. I really don’t know much about it, but I know that the archbishop Thomas Becker is buried there.
After the visit:
In total the visit to England, was great, very nice and educational. The Canterbury Cathedral was very special. The Cathedral is so enormously and beautiful (see pictures 1&2), I really didn’t expect it. You had two parts, the first part, (see picture 3) where you enter the cathedral, and the second part, in the back.(see picture 4) The second part was special, because only the monks were allowed to go there. I liked that part the most. Because it had lots of nice sculptures, the seats were also very nice-made. Another nice thing was the crypts, there was a really pretty and interesting made sculpture, in the form of a human. It was made of nails. The same nails as the builders used to build the cathedral. I took a picture from it but in some weird reason the picture is gone... Special thing; through whole the cathedral were very nice stained-glass windows.(picture 5) At least, the memorial place of Thomas of Becket, it really impressed me. I don't really remember the meaning of the sculpture, but it was very toughtfull. (see picture 6)
Sorry for the bad quality of the photo’s, but my camera didn’t work properly.
